Good Work Standard Employer

We are thrilled to announce that our team has been selected as one of the six finalists in the design competition, “A Gateway to New Malden.” This competition, launched by the London Festival of Architecture in collaboration with the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, aims to discover innovative proposals for permanent public realm improvements to New Malden’s Fountain Roundabout and the nearby pocket-park.

Patalab Architects have partnered with Adolfo Harrison Landscape Designers and architecture students Kyungjoo and Jang-hee. Together, we aim to creating a transformative design that will enhance the pedestrian environment and enrich the experience of visitors, commuters, and residents alike.

The competition brief set forth by Kingston Council emphasises the importance of improving the entry point to the town centre, while simultaneously promoting the value of green spaces and biodiversity. The proposals should create a beautiful, inspiring and accessible space for those who encounter it. Judges are seeking proposals that celebrate the character of New Malden, its local context and heritage; carefully considering the diverse community.

We recently had the opportunity to attend a briefing session for the shortlisted practices. We are now preparing to develop our proposal for the second stage of the competition, where we will refine our design and demonstrate its potential for New Malden.

As part of the judging process, all competition entries will be publicly exhibited from 22nd to 25th June. This exhibition will offer an opportunity for the community to engage with our ideas and provide valuable feedback. We look forward to showcasing our proposal and engaging in conversations with all those who visit the exhibition.

We are grateful to LFA, Kingston Council, and the judging panel for recognizing our team’s potential and selecting us as one of the finalists.
