Patalab is a team of dedicated and talented Architects and Designers with a wealth of experience in the design and construction industry.

Uwe Schmidt-Hess    Founder & Partner

Uwe Schmidt-HessUwe is the founder of Patalab. Since setting up the practice in 2008, he has coordinated the design of a diverse range of projects encompassing the residential, public, office, and culture sectors. Prior to establishing Patalab, Uwe worked for leading international firms including Fink+Jocher in Munich, Atrium Design in Bangkok and Make Architects in London.

As well as practice, Uwe has extensive teaching experience. He is currently a Masters unit tutor at the University of East London and has taught at Kingston University, The Bartlett School of Architecture at UCL and the University of Greenwich. Uwe undertook his studies in Weimar, Oxford and London, receiving his Diploma in Architecture from Bauhaus-University in Germany and his Masters of Architecture from the Bartlett School of Architecture.

Uwe's work including research and built projects has been exhibited and published internationally.

Dr. Michael Wihart    Partner & Co-Founder of Patalab Architekten

Dr. Michael WihartMichael joined Patalab in 2011 and became Partner in 2017. He is co-founder of Patalab Architekten in Germany and leads the Berlin office. Michael is responsible for some of the practice's key projects in London and Berlin including the office refurbishment of 141-143 Shoreditch High Street and the conversion of Media Factory.

He studied architecture in Austria, United States of America and the United Kingdom and holds a Doctoral degree from University College London. Michael is also a committed educator and architectural researcher with teaching activities at renowned universities.

Jordan Thompson   Partner at Patalab Architects

Jordan ThompsonJordan joined Patalab in 2012 and became a Partner in 2022. During his time at the practice, he has worked as lead architect on a significant portion of the practice’s built portfolio. Award-winning examples of Jordan’s work include: ‘The Gables’ and ‘Cascade House’, both of which combine a clarity of vision with a mindful re-use of existing structures.

Prior to joining Patalab, Jordan worked at David Chipperfield Architects, notably on ‘One Museum Place’, a $135m mixed use tower in the USA. Closer to home, he worked for several years on St Martin’s Courtyard, a mixed-use development in the heart of Covent Garden whilst at Smith Carradoc-Hodgkins Architects.

Simon James   Partner at Patalab Architects

Simon JamesHaving joined Patalab in 2013, Simon became Partner in 2022. He has taken the lead on a diverse range of innovative  projects, including ‘The Bird in Hand’ and ‘Heath House’, which won British Homes Award and was short-listed for the Manser Medal. Simon specialises in the delivery of highly complex projects that intersect physical and digital craft.

Simon studied architecture at Cardiff University where he graduated with First Class Honours and Commendation. His undergraduate project was nominated for the RIBA President’s Medal and was awarded the T Alwyn Lloyd Travelling Scholarship. Simon has also worked at internationally respected SAM Architekten & Partner in Zurich. During this period he contributed to numerous notable projects and competition entries including the winning entry for Wilchingen Winery.
