Victoria Townhouse on site

Construction has begun on our extensive refurbishment of a Grade 2* listed townhouse built to celebrate the beginning of Queen Victoria’s reign. Originally designed by architect Matthew Wyatt in the late 1830s, the five-storey residence is located on an intimate residential square surrounding a statue of Queen Victoria in the Grosvenor Estate near Buckingham Palace in London’s City of Westminster.

When Patalab was appointed to plan the refurbishment of Victoria Townhouse the building was in a state of disrepair, having been empty for years. Alongside layout modifications and designing bespoke furniture and joinery, we had to carefully consider how to integrate new services into the listed building as our proposal seeks to sensitively restore at the same time as update the house. Period grandeur will be reinstated whilst providing a residence to suit contemporary lifestyles.

During the design process Patalab liaised closely with planning authorities, Historic England and Grosvenor Estate to agree on restoration methodolgies and detailing, securing planning permission and listed building consent for the scheme in autumn last year. This was followed by a thorough tendering process, leading to the appointment of a main contractor some weeks ago. The construction works are due to be completed in spring 2019.
